Another reason I'll never get an auto tranny

I was driving around at lunchtime today and I was coming to a light with cars stopped in front of me. I hit the brakes and after about 1/4 of a sec, the pedal lost all pressure and went to the floor. I was cruising between 45 and 50 at this time. Well, my first car was an MG with poor brakes no matter what I tried to do to fix them, so downshifting is an instinct of my when I need emergency braking. I also pulled the emergency brake, but it is useless until I get under 5 mph.

If I had an auto, I'd be whining that I wrecked my car today.

Auto Logic

Mine has a shifter handle with "1" on it with a "2" right above it. It would be faster than your sissy 6 speed in a downshift emergency.

Sometimes I yearn for the manual, but D works fine as my shift slave.

Whoa, I think I hit a nerve. I never would have thought about using 1 or 2 in an auto. I do drive an auto family car occasionally and I would never have instinctively tried to downshift it. Again, it was one of many reasons *I* would not have an auto.

Anyway, I decided to go to our parking garage to try to figure out what caused my brakes to fail. I did check the fluid after I parked it and it was good.

Well, I found that the cotter pin holding the brake pad pin was gone and the pin had backed out enough so that the outward most brake pad came out.

I know that the cotter pin was once there as it's been 2 years/22k+ miles since I touched that caliper and I bleed the brakes yearly. I've never had a cotter pin failure before.

PS. I'd just about kill for a sissy 6 speed over my Muncie.
