My 98 vette has 21K miles, and the previous owner rarely drove the car but I've 2,000 on in in the last month. BUT, the front tires are in new condition while the rears are already in the wear bars. Been doing some reading of post on type to tires to get. I've gotten use to the goodyear run flats and am considering going with the Pilot tires. So my newbie question is, since the front tires are in practically new condition, do I really have to replace all 4 tires ?

Suggestions, comments, good, bad, indifferent?

run craps suck..........anyway......you're better off keeping all 4 the same manufacturer and type........I've ran mis-matched tires before ( when I had no choice ) and at aggressive
driving time I almost spun a couple of times......and I was expecting / prepared for it.

edited....spelling.....;)

I would have to agree with VETTEX2 - tires are designed for the same tread pattern at all four corners. If you don't put the same tread pattern at all four corners, you will end up with a built-in instability that will result in an earlier loss of control than if the same tread pattern was on all four corners. You will really be hating life if you saved $500 by not putting the same tread pattern on the front (that matches what you end up putting on the rear) and then crash the car from aggressive driving. Remember, all of the electronic systems (such as active handling) can not re-write the laws of physics; at best, they can only mitigate the negative impact.

Thanks guys. Right now some giuy offered me 800 bucks for my stock rims and tires. The rears are pretty much bald so i may take him up on it and get a new set of rims and tires (NOT RUNFLATS).

Thanks,
-Andy
