Lately my antenna does not go all the way down. It will stick out about one inch and somethimes two. I can push it down by hand without any resistance. My question: Is the antenna just dirty and needs cleaning, if so with what? Do I need to put oil on the antenna?

Thanks, Goose

That's the first thing I'd do. I use WD-40 on mine and cycle it several times before wiping the excess off. I'm usually doing this 3-4 times a year. I still have my original antenna in my 92, so I must be doing something right.

Thanks Tuna, I give that a try this weekend.

Goose, Keep on cruising!!

Folks, if the WD-40 does not work there is a replacement kit in Ecklers which is far cheaper than the AC Delco original antenna.

they say you aren't supposed to use WD-40 on the antenna. It gums up over time and makes things worse in the long run. I try to use something that is less prone to gumming up, like a lubricant with teflon in it. (although, I too have used WD-40)

The manual recommends mineral spirits everytime you wash the car.

I had read somewhere that no oils what so ever should be used to lubricate the antenna... I am guessing WD-40 is also included in that statement. But something like mineral sprits should be used.

Folks, I rearly use my HiFi for radio stations but mostly for listening my CD's. How do I stop the antenna from coming out when I listen to CD's???

We went thru this earlier this year fairly extensively. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44906In the passenger side rear compartment you will find a relay that is in the foam that holds the jack in place. Cut the dark green wire that leads in the general direction of the antenna and splice in a switch to control its operation. I have not used my antenna for nearly 3 months now.

ShaneL,

Thanks so much for the info. Can you send me a picture of the relay and the wire / jack etc. if you can afford the time?

Thanks again buddy

As you wish!

The green wire on top with the red butt splices hooks up to a switch that I mounted in the tray so that I can make it go up and down. The bottom green wire goed to the radio up front if I remember correctly (you don't even need to touch this one). And yes the lovely dynamat you see helps me stand the resonance now that exhaust work is done. I used Dynamat extreme and put a layer of extremeliner on top of it.

ShaneL,

Thanks for the picture again. I conside this a midterm project for the time being. I may get back to you on this later, please be patient with me...
