I found this hanging by two burnt wires next to the washer bottle and anti theft switch on the drivers side of my 76 vette.

It goes to your aniti-theft switch behind the washer bottle , next to the switch, it is held on by a nut. since they are plastic, they get old and break. it is the same switch that is uded on the headlights to prove they are open.

It is there to set the alarm off if someone pops the alarm switch out of the fender, in an effort to dis-arm the alarm. First used in late '74.

Thanks. Is it actually part the alarm switch? It has a piece broken off and I'm not sure if was one piece initially.

The part that is broken off is most likely the threaded stud. It goes into a slotted area of the shield, around the switch that goes thru the fender. It does not have to even be there. The alarm will still function without that switch. It is just there in case some thief pops the key-switch out of the fender. If that happens, this other switch will set the alarm off.

You can get new ones. It is the exact same switch that goes on the headlight linkage to turn on the light in the dash if the headlights don't fully lock in the "up" position. I think they're around $20 or so.
