Hi,
I have a 69 with 225/70/r15s and am looking to replace them this weekend. I like big tires with white letters. Any suggestions?

Firestone Firehawk SS20's
245/60-15 in front
255/60-15 on the back

(Mine are "Big O" specials -- I think they're actually Goodyears. But they actually look pretty good. They say: "Grand Am -- Radial GT")

I have the Firestone Firehawk's. Good tire for a reasonable price.

When it is time to replace the tires, I will be looking more closely at the size issue and considering going to a 16 inch rim with 60 series tires.

You may want to look into this before making a final decision.

I have BFG T/A Radials, 245/60-15. They fill the wheel well very nicely.

A REAL NICE TIRE

Just put a set of 255-60-r15 GOODYEAR EAGLE GT 2,s on my 80 vette and they look great, and ride even better;the white lettering on the tires are just a little bigger than the GOODRICH tire and i think they look exellent.

I also have the 255-60R15 Goodyear GTII's on the rear. 235-60 or 225-70's will be going on the front, sometime soon.

Thanks for the input:BOW
I stayed conservative. BFG 225/70/15 all around. Letters out:)

Follow up question:

The first # (i.e 235) represents the amount of rubber touching the road?
So a 235/70-15 is as wide as a 235/60-15 but the 70 series is taller.

Yes. The first number is the width, in millimeters. The second number is the aspect ratio, in percent. So, multiply the width (235) by the aspect ratio (60%, or .6) and you get a height of 141 millimeters (5.55").

So a 224-70R15 is 8.86" wide, with a 6.2" sidewall. A 255-60R15 is a hair over 10" wide, with a 6.02" sidewall. Add the sidewalls to the wheel diameter, do a bit of math, and you find that the 255-60R15's circumference is 98.7% of the 225-70R15's circumference. Or, less than 1 mph difference, when travelling 70 mph. Close enough for me :)
