Ok so now I have my '96 I like to rest my left arm on top of the door panel when driving but the 96 seems to have a higher door and my arm ends up hurting after driving and the arm rest on the inside of the door is not high enough, so is there a way to make the seat higher ?

By the way it is a sweet car, will have pics soon

The tracks the seat moves on are held to the floor with 4 screws (I think). You could remove the seat cushion, then the tracks and put a spacer down (say a 2x4) and reinstall using longer screws. However the cockpit's designed to keep you and your arms inside. There may be issues with your gut contacting the steering wheel, seat belt lengths, head clearance, etc. I'd try it out first by putting something on the seat, cushions, etc. see how it all feels.
I don't think the seat raising would be that difficult in itself. The seat assembly is pretty simple. I took mine apart once just to check why the pwr seat was working oddly. I never fixed it once I moved everything where I wanted it to be.
I'll replace the track stuff when I get $500 to kill on something I want more than wine, women, and song :-)
:D

Light pieces of square tubing using original bolts to fasten them and use replacement bolts with nuts and locks to bolt the seat to the tubing would be the safest way.

bin der dun dat

There are 4 bolts holding seat tracks to floor, these bolts thread into welded nuts reinforced into the floor boards.
My suggestion remove seat and add as many washers as possible while maintaining full thread contact with the nut in the floor. This may only be 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch.
Replace seat and finger tighten bolts, sit in the car and you'll be surprised at the difference.
If you require more height perhaps a longer bolt(go for hardened high strength replacements) will afford you 1/2 inch or more.
Keep in mind you may compromise the integity of the seat attachments by going too high.
eg; serious rear ender will send you and the seat through the back window.
Do you have power seats, don't they go high enough????

If you're sure that your seat springs are okay..........

I have slightly raised the passenger seat (about 3/8") to fit a slim 4-channel amplifier under it. I used washers and had plenty of thread for grip to the anchors.

The first pic shows the bolt holes under the seat; second shows (barely) the washers under the front mount.

Maybe it's just me but I think people who drive around with their arms resting on top of the door (or worse, with their left arm hanging outside the car) are not in full control of the car.

A number of years ago I test drove an AUDI. When I got in the car I commented to the salesman that there was no arm rest on the driver's side door. I was informed in a very think German accent "Zher drifer shout haf bott hans on zher veel at all times."

I have both hands on the wheel at all times I just like to rest my elbow on the top of the door, thats all, more comfortable since the arm rest is real low.

2 handed driving

If i'm in heavy traffic,bad weather,poor driving conditions it's 2 hands.
Most of the time it's one hand very relaxed and lottsa room between me and the next guy.
Hell I know 10o'clock and 2 o'clock but man that wears you out!!!!!!!
I used to slalom (gymkhana) my car with one hand, and it was a 66 4spd 425 horse big block,on a parking lot yet. Each to his own.

Just use a few washers and if needed, go to the hardware store and pickup a few grade 8 bolts that are longer.. You will be supprised at what a 3/8" to 1/2" will do in your seating postion.

Maybe just try sitting on few Corvette Catalogs on top of the seat just to see what the difference will make (two Mid-America should give you about 1/2"). I sure you have a few old ones sitting around LOL..
