Original black paint? I dunno about that.

The darkest factory-offered shade I've seen on a '58 Corvette was "charcoal", a gray with high metallic content.

That looks like a nice car, though. Just maybe a little over-hyped with all the crap about matching numbers and 3000 miles.

According to the CAC Tech Center, black was an option... CLICK!!

I had found those other info sites before I even found CAC so from habit I always seem to refer to them first and forget that there is a wealth of info right here on CAC in the tech center.
Thanks for reminding me and others about it! :beer

Gotta love it - one stop shopping right here on CAC - great info in the discussion forums and great info thru the tech center.

I'm going by the NCRS Specifications Guide, my memory, and the photo on the auction page showing a charcoal colored trunk interior.

The NCRS Guide could be wrong or out of date. My memory is worthless as an information source. And certainly, the auction photo could be misleading for a zillion reasons.

For that matter, this car could have a rare, one-off, "brass hat" paint job for a Special Friend of Harley Earl. I believe he was dating a Japanese showgirl, Shirley "Teats" LaRue, about that time.

NCRS book....... :duh The first place I SHOULD have looked and didn't think of it.
Let's see now..... ok, the NCRS 1953-1967 Corvette Spec Guide (4th edition - Spring 2004) lists:
Black (Solid) - code# 503 and 294 produced that year,
Black/Silver - code# 507 and 199 produced that year

Now that sounds like a story worth exploring.... complete with pics, of course!! :L

My NCRS Spec Book is dated 1989, so I'll just shut up now.

Since the NCRS is about preserving the heritage, shouldn't the Spec Book be pretty darn close to the same or is someone rewriting history to include a few extra 67 L88s? :L

Jerry, don't worry about it! :)
it's funny I made a post a little while ago on the "other site" and was severely corrected by SWCDuke. My reply was about the same exact one as yours just now. I said i'll shut up now.
Funny we both said the same thing! The only difference is that in both cases Duke and you know a h*ll of a lot more about vettes than I ever will.

I think '67 L-88's were scientifically proven to be like guppies - they just keep multiplying. More and more every year. And gee, each one is fully and authentically documented. Hmmm
:crazy

Peronally, I hate the color combination on that '58 :D

I wonder why there were no bids?

worse yet.....it was ended early.....by the seller....so it either sold locally already.....or there was really something wrong with that one.....not sure we will ever know......
