Has anyone sent their stock 79 am/fm/8 trck radio out for repair and how do it turn out?

My radio works fine but the 8 track player is in need some repair. I know your thinking why bother -- but for stock purposes and the fact that I own quite a few 8 track tapes it would be nice to have it repaired and working properly.

Anyone have any experience?

Does the 8-track do anything - make any sounds from the speakers at all? If it appears to be completely dead, before you send it out, you might want to spend a couple of minutes to take the top cover off the radio/8-track unit and check the rubber 8-track drive belt. 25 years doesn't do anything good for overgrown rubber bands.

My belt was useless and I'm fairly certain that is the only problem, but I got deployed before I could find a place to buy a new belt from so that project is on hold.

Let us know how it turns out.

The 8 track makes a sputter noise out of the speakers -- very low behind the noise, you can hear the tape playing. I know the tape is good as I have an old 8 track player in my garage that I listen to while I working on the car.

Thanks for the response - I will Check the belt as you have suggested but it seems to be moving the tape. A cleaner may help but I have found that the eject button is useless.
