Looks to me like someone sold you too small a tire for the rims. You can see they forced the tire wider to fit. The sidewalls are going inward toward the tread. I like a flat sidewall.

Going through a corner I can see the sidewalls will touch the roadway too much for my comfort.

Well,There the size there supposed to be!!I think what your seeing is the rim protector's built into the sidewall of the Firestone Wide Oval tires!! They stick out over the edge of the rim a good 5/8's inch,the Stock Goodyears didn't have it!!
I drive purdy aggressive on these Mountain roads,I've put over 4,000 miles on'em I don't have any scuffed sidewalls yet!!
