i just got my 84 back from the mechanic. he did some transmission work and changed out 2 of my u-joints. the main transmission job i took it in for was if shifts hard into drive from park/neutral.
the description of work on the transmission is:
Service trans & R+R (removed and replaced) Valve Body/Seperator Plate
R+R Trans repair forward 2-5 input
he also changed the fluid in the rear end.
when i got it back, the shift points were different. before it idled very fast, around 10mph. now it barely idles, and it doesnt feel like the clutch enguages until i about 1200rpm.
when i first was driving it home, it didnt even shift into 3rd until almost 4000rpm, but later was shifting at about 2300-2500rpm.
i got up on the freeway and was going about 75 then gave it some gas and it downshifted like normal, but then didnt shift back up to 4th like it nomally would. eventually it did, but it took some time.
i dont know much about transmissions. maybe the fluids just need to get worked around on the inside or something. but if the transmission is not shifting like i feel it should. does anyone have any information that may help me? what are some normal shift points? i just want an opinion from some people who know what they are talking about before i take it back to the shop and start asking questions.
