Auto Week Tv

Yesterday on Autoweek's latest TV show (SPEED) they featured a segment on all the Chevy SS. The purpose was to promote the SSR and the fact that it will be the Indy Pacecar / truck this year. They also showed the red SS 4 door concept and stated that it might be slated for production.

After showing the new Silverado extended cab SS recently released, they showed another SS truck with a "normal" cab. They stated that this one has a 395HP V8 and could see production next year. Thought you might find the engine HP interesting.

Unfortunately the power is too low to beat a Lighting and the new V10 Dodge. The SS also cost $40,000. Still not a real performance sport truck but is better rounded vehicle than the others. It comes with all wheel drive which the other don't have.
My opinion though is that i'd only buy a performance truck if it were really fast.

What is GM doing??? Is every other car they build going to have a Corvette engine? or chassis? Soon you will be able to go to any division and buy something with pieces of Corvette in it. They are really going to wreck this car.

HP is not the only factor, torque is just as important. I can give you many examples of cars with less HP that have a lot of torque and beat cars that have higher HP ratings.

I didn't mean to get into trucks here - the purpose of the post was the ..
1. possible production of the SS concept
2. the SS truck engine that sounds like a de-tuned C6 engine - just like the old Camaro / Corvette relationship.

If they want to de-tune vette engines and amortize the cost over other heavier, different purpose vehicles that's fine with me. To me, that assures the continued existance of the vette and probably helps assure engine development. I never felt "threatened" that a Camaro had a similar powerplant, and I certainly won't worry about truck, or even a 4 door sedan or two (CTS-V & SS concept?) with a similar powerplant.

As far as the truck, this new SS "short cab" rides, of course, on a shorter wheel base than the extended cab version. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF ALL WHEEL DRIVE WHEN THEY DESCRIBED THIS TRUCK. It was referred to as a "no frills" version of the existing SS Truck.

Longtimer-
I think I agree with you on the engines, and Ice, I agree with you on the chassis. Corvette has always shared engines with other cars. The 60's and 70's big and small blocks were in all of the car lines. The big block was originally a truck and large car engine that actually got transplanted to the Vette.

Variations of the LT1 were found in the Camaro, Firebird, and Impala SS. The LS1 and is a little less ubiquitous, and I think that this is a relatively new thing. That's probably due to the cost of the aluminum engine.

To me, what makes the Corvette these days is the whole package, and a lot of that has to do with its underpinnings. I think that if the design gets shared with too many things, that will be the start of the "dumbing down" of the line. That said, I don't think there's any shame in sharing a chassis with the premium division's new flagship german-eater (XLR). Too many more, that's trouble.

Windy... Sorry.

Trust me I know all about torq. It's still does not stack up against the others. The SS is just a standard truck with some slap on parts.

I'm looking at the Autoweek article right now. It's say "ALL WHEEL DRIVE" Something the others don't have.Refferring to the new SS. Contrary to popular belief, I don't make stuff up. :L

Easy big guy, I haven't seen any article. I saw the Autoweek TV segment on Chevy's SSs. Unless I happened to be bending my elbow at the time (which is very possible), they did not specify on TV if the regular cab 395hp that may be released later this year(?)would have all wheel, 4 wheel, or 2 wheel drive. This is NOT the extended cab model that has already been tested by several magazines.

See the little laughing smiley face? That's means I'm joking around , using sarcasm. Tha'ts the problem with this media. No way to show that type of thing when posting and people just read what's written without taking into account the emotions that may be behind the words. :L :beer
Getting back to the post. Good post over all.:cool
