I purchased an Aux fan for an 88 from eBay. I did a dry fit I need to do some additional work on mounting. Does anyone know if there is a kit available I can use to mount the fan in front of the radiator? Or do I need to fabricate something. I have looked at Ecklers, Mid America, Corvette Central but no pretty pictures for me to look at. This was an option (of course my vette does not have it) so I would think something would be available.

Thanks in advance.

I will email you a copy of the directions that a forum member scanned and emailed to me. It shows a picture of how it gets mounted. Not crystal clear but once I get the kit in my hands it might get cleared. I am waiting on the aux fan kit to become available at Mid America, still 2 more weeks. The desert heat is killing me.

I received the email. Thanks a lot.

I hear ya on the heat - AZ is brutal as you know. The new radiator is helping but I still have issues in traffic. I went to Home Depot yesterday and picked up some aluminum to make mounting brackets. I am just going to wire up a switch and mount it inside - for now.

Have you cleaned out the junk between the radiator and AC core? I did and it did make a difference. That is when I noticed the whimpy radiator. My Vette was originally sold in Indiana - hence the small radiator. The new radiator is twice the core size and it has made a big difference. I am running the low temp sensor with a 180* stat. I am not sure if it is the right combo but so far it is working.

Let me know how the kit makes out. It has the other components that I need if I decide to make it a little more automatic.

Again, thanks for the email BTW - Where you located?

I will clean the radiator when the auxiliary fan kit arrives.
The nice thing about the instructions is the wiring diagram. It shows you how to wire both fans to come on with only 1 low temp sensor. The ECM speed control is now bypassed so the only control is the sensor. This should really alleviate the higher temps in our wonderful traffic jams.
Did Doug’s radiator have any input on the t-stat? I have bought a 160 but worry that it won't leave the water in the radiator long enough to cool down.
I live in the north valley, north of Pinnacle Peak Road and west of I17.

If I were to add an aux. fan on my '84....would buy the complete kit from Mid America......
Looks complete...
Just a thought....think its an original item as on Z51 options..

I think it was on the Z51. The main difference I saw from looking at the installation instructions is the shroud is different on TPI models vs X-Fire. My fan came off an 88 and it looks like the one in the instructions. The only thing I can think of is to make custom mounting brackets because it does not fit the shourd. Electrically I am not sure if they are the same. The kit says to hook up the sensor using plug between cylinders 1 & 3 on the drivers side. Ours ('84s) is between cylinders 6 & 8 on the passenger side. I have heard of placing the sensor in the spot on the X-Fire mainifold in the front to operate the fans independantly. I have not tried so I can not verify it works. Perhaps someone else knows.

This is what I know - which ain't much.

The 84 had options for a "V01 Heavy Duty Radiator" and "V08 Heavy Duty Cooling" What that entails... ;shrug
