I just got back from looking at this car and I'm very excited. Wish I could have got there first. Roger, a friend of mine who owns an area body shop, got a call from his brother Ron. Ron said his brother in law decided to sell his 1962 and offered it to him. He didn't want a project but though that Roger might. Roger had recently sold his 1964 Corvette and a 1956 Bel Air restomod and was redoing his old 1969 SS396 again so he wasn't interested either but he thought that it was worth a look. 2 weeks later he brought it home. I looked at it in the parts room of his body shop.
The car was drag raced in it's day and has period Traction Masters on in as well as a Hurst shifter on the original 4 speed and some other minor mods. The original engine is gone but he got some engines with it and what are supposed to be the original heads. They are at his house so I didn't get to see them. The car was a 250 or 300 horse.
It was last registered in 1974 and still has those 1974 plates on it. Since then it was in a dry barn covered up. The hardtop is damaged. It was in the previouse owner's garage and got backed into but it's fixable.
Plans are for a frame off restoration. I believe it to have been black with red interior when new and we will look for the crayon markings in the not too distant future. I would have already paid him for those straight spoke Americans if they were not 14 inchers. Darn!
The body is very nice and the frame is too with only the normal light surface rust. Mileage shows in the 30s and since it was driven mostly 1/4 mile at a time it is probably correct.
He also has the owner history back to the late 60s.
