yesterday our Vette club held it's Vette-only show for charity "Vettes for Vets".

Lot's of beautiful cars there even with the smaller turnout that we hoped for and expected but between it being the same weekend as the Ocean City, MD event and also another events rain date there were a lot of shows yesterday.

A '66 Milano Maroon coupe with sidepipes showed up (not too many Milano Maroons around here so they stand out) and it REALLY made me miss BABY and not having her at the show with me. Turns out that car ended up taking 2nd place in the '63-'67 Show class. The same owner also brought a '69 vert and he took a first place home for that car also in the Modified class. He had a great day!

The main reason for this thread though was to tell about a gold '63 SWC FI that showed up. What a beautiful car! The owner has had it for the last 30 years he said and he trailers it to all the shows. There isn't anything on that car that isn't perfect. I don't know how long ago the restoration was done but the odometer only shows 34 miles (yep, only 34, that wasn't a typo).
He not only took home first place in the '63-'67 Show class but also Best of Show. i wasn't too surprised though as this was a Bloomington Gold car.
No question, this car was just outstanding.

I wonder if it belongs to anyone on this forum. I wish I had more time to talk to the owner but I was busy working the show - first directing the parking of the cars on the lot than judging.

I see a lot of Vettes around but 99% of them are drivers - although most are in very, very excellent condition they are still drivers so to see a car in this condition for ME was something very different. I can't imagine going to a national NCRS event and just seeing car after car in this condition

That is a shame.....no doubt that it is a nice car......34 miles cool.....but that car needs to be drivin.....I would not own it........that is just me. :beer

i know what you mean - to have a car only to live in a trailer except for a few hours where it sits in a show and than back in a trailer again.
I like my "driver" car that I can enjoy!

Barry,

We know the owner pretty well as we have been to several shows where he has shown his car. I wasn't aware that he had only 34 miles on it though as he's never mentioned it and I didn't look at the speedometer. It's been in Chip's Choice and was in the NCRS Gallery this year in Carlisle.

He's also building a Tuxedo black 63 FI Coupe now.

thanks for the info!
i figured someone on here would have known this car.
it's neat to learn a little more about it after seeing it.

as for the 34 miles....well, i have to tell you, i did a double take than a triple take looking at the odometer. At first i couldn't believe i had only seen 34 miles and than i STILL couldn't believe it so had to look a 3rd time!
LOL

Rich, tell me about the black 63 SWC??

Did your friend buy the black 63 from Jerry Wickers in Southern Oregon? If so I know the two previous owners from Southern California.

The car I am thinking about had only 50000+ miles and was 100% original black / black fuelie. My friend sold it to Jerry in 1998 and he sold to someone back in Eastern Pennsylvania.

I would sure like to find that perfect "SURVIVOR"

Yes, that car is a consistent winner all around the mid atlantic and northeast sections of the country. If it is the same car I know, it is saddle tan with saddle tan interior. The car is flawless, except for the valve covers, IMHO, which are much too dull, and almost look like they were painted. Personally, I don't care for the color combination, tan on tan is just plain ugly, but, to each his own.
The owner is a very nice gentleman, and is rightfully proud of his car. He refuses to drive it, and balked when I suggested that he should try for an NCRS Performance Verification and Duntov award. This is not my idea of the Corvette experience, and that car is nothing more than a lamp shade which just sits there looking pretty (?).

Jim,

I believe he found this one in New York. From what I understand it was anything but a "survivor". :(

you know, it's funny you mention the valve covers. I didn't notice them so much in particular as i did the Fuelie doghouse. I didn't mention this in my post because i hated to critisize such a great car, but considering how perfect everything else on the car is I was surprised to see the condition of the doghouse. it is very dull and "tarnished" looking. I'm surprised he doesn't get it reskiined or something else to bring back the proper appearance and brightness of the unit. On just about any other car you may not notice it as much but considering just how perfect everything else on this car is the doghouse stands out. Oh well, if he is taking consistent 1st places why make changes if not needed.

yep, i onlt a few minutes to chat with him - wish it was more - but he did seem like a very nice guy.
also very quiet and comes across as somewhat modest also almost like he is both proud and embarrassed at the same time of his car being so nice.
