I'm planning on getting a 700R4 next month and desired a new shifter. I need a 4-speed shifter (auto) and I would like the 'ratchet' feature. In addition, I want the shifter to perfectly replace my stock shifter, or at least fit in the same position.

Has anyone installed a shifter in their vehicle and if so, how did it turn out? Did you get the stock gear indicator to work?

Hey vmrod

Cant help with the rachet shifter, but mine came with a 700R4 in it, but with the standard original shifter (looks standard). Also still had the 3 speed shift indicator plate and no pointer (as nothing read true, so they removed it).
I got a new pointer and a shift indicator plate from Corvette America for an "82 as they were all 4 speed auto, so now at least it tells the truth to which gear your in.

I dont know if this is factual, but I had heard a rumour that the standard 700R4 doesnt like manual shifting (particularly down-shifting) without modification, something about bending fingers???? (sorry cant be clearer, memory loss??). Maybe someone may be able to enlighten us further if this rumour has any merit!

Good Luck, :beer.

They have the Console Quicksilver but If I remeber it said only for Camaros and Firebirds. I don't see why it wouldn't work on a vette, and I'd also be intrested in the answer.

The 700R4 will be beefed up. I knew that I could put a new shifter lens adapter in there, however, I wanna enjoy a ratchet shifter!

I had a ratchet shifter in a '71 chevelle and it was fun.

I do not want to make my console look hacked up though. I don't mind modifying it, but it must look clean. I would prefer to install it in place of the original.

Tomorrow, I'll cal B&M. Maybe they can give me some advice.

Hey vmrod

How did you go with B & M for a ratchet shifter???
Have you found anything???

:beer

Not yet. I'm still saving up, and I am very close. Unfortunately, Katrina has knocked out my power (3rd days so far). I can only browse at work and it is restricted here! Poor New Orleans!

Well...it appears that I may have to wait a bit longer for my transmission. The guy's shop is in Slidell, and it was hit hard form the storm. :(
