B & M Short Throw Shifter

Have any of you istalled this shifter in your Z06? I'm wondering how you like it.

Dale,

There many folks running the B&M Ripper.
There are also several alternitives (sp)

Hurst makes a good one

Breathless performance makes an Adj. Short throw

Kirban also makes a short throw

Folks also shorten their stock shift and are happy.........

I love it! What a difference. I never missed a shift after I got used to the tight action. I just put the stock shifter back in, it feels sooo long and loose again. I can't wait to put the B & M back in. I had to take the Z06 in for a bad rear bearing. It goes in pretty easy, about 45min.

Do you have any problems getting it to shift into any of the gears? Do you have any new noise or vibrations with the B&M?

No probs with the shifting, you do get more transmission noise. I didn't mind, it sounds a little meaner that way.

B & M SHORT SHIFT

HAVE A HURST SHORT SHIFTER IN BOTH MY OTHER COVETTE A 2OOO AND NOW MY 2001 Z06 RATTLED IN THIRD GEAR. I PUT A HEAVY SHIFT KNOB ON IT, AND IT IS MUCH MORE LIVEABLE, BUT STILL HAS A RATTLE WORSE IN 3RD, THREE K RPM UP. SHIFT PATTERN MAKES IT LIVABLE. ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION FOR RATTLE?

TEDF -- I have heard that putting half of a tennis ball over the shaft but under the boot helps cut down on the rattle.

Yep,my 02Z with the BM ripper has the rattle.

Every Vette seems to have a rattle or squeak you can't find/fix.
Gives the car character!!

Update: Fixed my accel rattle by using lith grease around the shaft.It was dry.

I've tried the Hurst shifter...ratchety and seems to hit a corner or edge during the 2nd to 3rd shift just like the stock shifter. I've played around with the B&M shifter...no better than the Hurst shifter.

I currently have the Callaway shifter. What a difference...short throw, precise and you don't hit that corner or edge on the 2nd to 3rd shift. One of the best shifters I've ever used. Strongly recommend it.

I just got done putting a b&m ripper in my 02. Question, there was an allen wrench shaped piece of metal that was connected from the outside of the shifter box to the factory shifter. The paperwork with that came with the b&m shifter didn't talk about this item. So I called b&m and am still waiting for them to call me back. So I installed the b&m without this item. Did you have the same issue? Anyone know what this allen wrench shaped item is?

I installed a B&M sports shifter this summer on my 2000FRC--fantastic improvement over stock, in all respects.

I have not heard on being better over the other, but B&M seems to have addressed vibration isolation better. I have the Hurst, and have made mods. to it to make it as quiet as stock.
