hello

my backup lights on my 72 dont work
i did measure over 12v on them both, when i put the 400 automatic in R.

but when i put the bulb in, no lights?
when i put a bulb in the left one there is no light
and then the right one have no volt?
if i put a bulb in the right one: no light but then i still
have over 12v in the left.

thanks for any help.
hope you guys understand my bad english.

Your english is fine....I have a similar weird problem

occasionally, but it's not in the backup lights and it's because it was poorly rewired (actually when they got RID of the backup lights....) My problem is between taillights/brake lights/turning signals.

When I have a problem like that, I quickly rewire from switch to device. Odds are there is a grounding out wire or someone rewired it badly in the last three decades. I do not believe there is a relay for b/u lights, so power to both lights should go to one wire which should run up to the switch in the gear shift console. Both sockets should of course be grounded - but make sure only the outside part of the socket is grounded.
