Hello everybody,

After checking my timing chain i'm rebuilding the "front" of the engine.
The first problem is that i don't remember how close the harmonic balancer was to the timingcover.. So do you guy's have any idea? Is it realy oke when i just fasten it to manual spec's, it's 60.. something...?
I don't have a setup tool and just fasten it with the center bolt, i also placed a sleeve on the balancer so the original marks of the original seal. The balancer is now about hafway past the ignition timing metal (the egde of it). And i think i'm already to close to the timingcover..

Another way to get an idea of the place is putting the belts back on and see how the roll on the crankpulleys.
The only problem is, the waterpump is not on it, the airpomp is also not in place, for the generator the same... Only the airco and powersteering are in place, but i don't know the sequence of the belts.
So can somebody tell me on which of the three crankpulley's the belts go?
Starting with the
Generator - waterpump - crank.
Airco - waterpump - crank.
Powersteering - crank and airpump - waterpump..
From the engine to the outside.
It's a bone stock L81!

Greetings Peter.

Peter,

I can't help you with the belts, but I can with the Harmonic Balancer = hb. The hb will only go on so far and then it will bottom out against the lower cam gear.

There are two ways of putting it on. One way (I don't recommend it, but have done it many times) is to get a block of wood on the hb, and found it on with a big hammer.

The second is to order a hb puller/installer kit. Summit racing sells them as well as many others. They are a life saver. They help you pull and press the hb in place. If you try to pull it up with the crank bolt, you will strip the threads in the crank! Don't do that!

Basically, if you go with the hammer and wood block, you just pound the block as hard as you can, and it will eventually bottom out. You already have the right idea...pop the water pump on with a couple of bolts and throw the pulleys on. check to see if they are aligned.

Now...if you get the tool, it will pull the hb in place, and you will know when it is home, because you won't be able to press it anymore.
