Got the car last week and just placed a order with Mid America. Order the k&n with open lid, coolant bypass, air foil, and maf relocation for about $200 and am getting flowmasters put on from local shop for about $250. Can anyone tell me what I can expect from this. Unfortantly I have a 2.59 rear end, but I live near a used vette dealer a hopefully he can help me out, what are the prices for a new or used rear end installed?

Just my opinion, of course, but I would guess all those changes will accomplish is make your wallet that much lighter. MAYBE free up a few extra ponies with the Flowmasters, if their roar doesn't cause you impaired hearing first. Will probably get flamed for that comment, heh heh heh.....you can guess I am not a fan of flowmasters.

A gear change should include going from your present D36 to a stronger D44. That and the gears will run you around a grand for new stuff. Installation is extra. Since prices vary so much from shop to shop, you need to ask around about the cost.

None of that stuff will help that much.

The K&N/Open lid thing is worth about 5. The TB bypass, 3-4. Airfoil=0, MAT reloc. is ok but i wouldnt expect but 1-3hp if any.

Flowmasters give about 10, if you replace the stock rear Y.

Although you cant add hp linearly, so this stuff doesnt add up to 20hp. Added together maybe 15-17hp.

The 2 posts above are right on. While you can, I would recommed getting rid of the Flowmasters :( before they're installed, in favor of a better catback. I know they're popular, I just wish they weren't.

less than 100 dollars in mods i got my 87 coupe with an auto and 2.59 rear gear in the 13's.

read some of my mod posts here in this forum!

good luck :)

I also had 2.59 and did the mods mentioned above, but it wasn´t until i changed gears to 3.73 i noticed any real difference.

It was around USD 1200, but it was made in Sweden, i guess its a bit cheaper in the US? I wish i had saved my money on the other mods and put them on the gear change in the first place! :eyerole

It's just my opinion, of course, but most anything would sound better than those "roaring" Flomasters......even Thrush Glasspacs (you'd be surprised at the depth of the sound from glasspacs). A nice "gurgle" at idle too....not like the "droning" of those "others".

Your ears with thank you as well. ;)

Pile brothers in Baytown TX did my gears. 373 Strange with bearings for $900. Best money spent and their work is second to none. I will anticipate your next question - 70MPH @ 2600 RPM in OD. The car stays in third gear through the quarter mile.

the jones

so as it turns out the gears will be the only noticable gains with or with out all that air foil crap. cmon guys that **** they are peddling in mid america is just pr. even the flow masters unless you have the pipes redone from the heads to the rear bumper. see i almost fell into this free mod stuff riding the corvette faster than thou wave, untill i found out most 2k and up honda vans will leave you at the light. lets see this for what it is. `80-`90 specs just doesnt add up to todays v6 270hp+. different times. but all is not lost. after all it is still a v8 and capable of some hp and trq. but it takes money. lets be real. depending on your goals hp and or torq wise, it will take some major hardware upgrades that dont cost $19.99.. belive me i know iv spent over 8 grand on my engine just to keep up with the " jones" 400hp.

roaring flowmasters

it is my opinion that if a person didnt want the "roaring sound" he wouldnt by flowmasters.

I don't know about all that, if you know what you're doing. Obviously Mad-Mic has something going, and I don't think you'll find many hondas leaving him at the light.

If you're going to open up the instake and exhaust then you should really get the PCM re-programed. There are lots of folks tuning the LT1s with very respectable gains. They can also modify ship points and firm up the shifts on some trannies.

Stay away from Hypertech, it really isn't worth the money. Go for pcmforless or fastchips for half the price with more performance and options.
