I'm going to be getting a Red Top Battery for my 98 C5 this weekend.......wanted to know if there is any special proceedure to change the battery....aside from the usual disconnecting the negative then the positive, then instaslling, then reconnecting, then re-learning for 15min, etc.....anything else i need to do?

Anyone? I did a search with nothing comming back....

Hi, C598,
I am unaware of any special procedures for changing a battery besides the ones you identified. I might suggest you get one of those temp. power supplies you can plug into your cigarette lighter, so that the computer, radio, etc. holds memory until you get the battery changed.

Anyone know of a step we've overlooked?

Thanks for the info....I'll pick one of those up also....any additional information for properly changing the battery would be helpful.

In 1997 and newer Vettes you don't need the temp power supply. I took my battery out to clean around it and all my setting remained the same except the time on the radio.
I did however have to resynchronize the remote. You do this by pressing and holding the lock and unlock buttons together for seven seconds while standing next to the vehicle.

I did not have to do anything special when I did mine. Just do what you described and you'll be fine. You'll be amazed at how much faster it fires up with the Red Top and the amps that come along with it.

Sounds good to me :upthumbs Thanks for the info.

btw, what does the red top cost these days?

Thanks
Rain

Ok, i got the Redtop today....price after core was turned in and install totalled $75. Now, is there only ONE redtop out there on the market?? Whats the CCA and normal CA on these things? I just want to make sure i got the right one....install went fine, and everything was ok.

Optimas are "somewhat universal". Either a 34/78 (800 cca) or 75/35 (720) will work fine.

PS - that was a good price!

It was a good price :) My buddy is a manager where i bought the battery. I got the 75/35(720) model....damnit...if i knew there was an 800 out there, i wouldve opted for that. Oh well..better this than that Delco battery that could leak/explode etc...

yea, btw, that IS a great price..
