Battery or elect. short

I have a 2004 with 12,000 mi. and just put in my third battery. I am trying to find if I have a short somewhere. I drive the car about 1,500 miles a year like every other week. Is there a way you can tell by the codes there is a short? Thanks in advance for any help

First you have to tell us if any codes are set.

You may have some same draw on the battery(small light or something) causing a drain on the battery, causing a dead cell. Not driving it or charging will cause a dead cell with a drain pulling the battery down to under a full charge. it could even be the combination of small draws.
