this is a problem on my trans am, the other day I left my parking lights on all night and of course end result dead battery, threw the charger on the battery and the car started right up however now it's like my car either has a drain or a dead cell, when it won't start I can throw the charger on and it says the battery is charged after maybe 5 minutes and the car starts then say after a hour of driving it then sitting for 10 hours it wont even try to crank over but starts immediately with a jump start, Im not sure of the voltage the alternator is putting out has a digital dash, but its somewhere between 13-16 volts acording to the gauge ..... is it possible for a alternator to supply the cars electrical system yet not charge the battery, am I dealing with a dead cell, a short ........ oh at night the lights are always bright so I'm pretty sure the car isn't running off the battery

thanks for helping guys

I agree with Chris. have it tested but it sounds like time for a fresh Delco Battery.

Those lead-acid batteries do NOT like to be completely drained (unlike the old Ni-Cad's that used to be used in cell phones).

Most likely you've got an open cell in your battery ("open" meaning electrically open, as opposed to being shorted). The charger "thinks" the battery is charged because the battery is not drawing any charging current, when it's actually due to the open cell.

Same with the alternator, yes it can supply the car's electrical system but not charge the battery. In your case, because of the open cell the battery is not drawing any current from the alternator.

Bottom line...time for a new battery.
