2004 Coupe; Battery Tender battery charger.

I unbolted the battery cable to slide the Battery Tender cable on, but then the cable didn't want to tighten up - apparently the C5 cables need to have nothing between the cable contacts in order to tighten.

How have ya'll installed the Battery Tender? (I want to install the pigtail so that I can engage/disengage the device - and prefer not to use the alligator clamps if I can avoid it).

Thanks!

Jim

Jim,
although i have an 82, maybe you ran into the same thing i did:
When i installed the pigtails on mine, i had to file a little of the bolt away so that the bolt of the cable was able to be screwed on tight. The 'ear' only fit with some 'convincing' but i made it fit by looping it on without the battery involved, something like 10 times. But to get the bolt in tight, i had to file away at the part where the wire attached to the 'ear'. Hope this helps..

I left my battery alone and attached the pigtails to the alternator and a good ground. I have used this setup for two years with no problems. In fact I ran the "plug" out into my wheel well and can attach the battery tender without raising the hood. The pigtail plug has a cover on it when not in use.

Thanks, Stefan, I'll take a closer look.

Thanks for the idea! It's supposed to be warm here on Sunday, I'll take a peek.

Will it work if you hook it up to the hot lead on the alternator ? It should. It did 4 me.
