How long will a charged battery last in a vehicle with the clock as the only drain? I am trying to figure out if I got the short circuit fixed ( I belive I did). Right now there is a .7amp pull on the battery.

Any thoughts?

Maximum allowable draw is .050 amps, or 50 milliamps. Anything higher is a problem and will drain a battery.

Depends on the amp/hour rating, condition of the battery, temperature and other factors but with an 8.4 watt (.7A) draw on a 40 a/h battery you will kill a good battery in about 55 hours (more or less). It would surprise me if the clock was drawing 700mA.

.7A for a clock :eek :eek
affraid you have other issues.
try pulling fuses one at a time until you see what circuit is loading down.

Its a 1980 vette. The only fuse that pulls amps is the clock/radio fuse. What all runs on that fuse? It was pulling about 1.75amps and I traced that back to the cigarette lighter. I will check the amps again but I am sure it was around .7.

I have the radio totally unplugged for now, and when I test I make sure the interior light are off.

If it's the 20 amo fuse, then it powers: clock, glove box light, visor vanity light, spare tire light, dome light, left and right courtesy lights, & the cigar lighter.

Does that include the door buzzer? I have noticed a few time that the buzzer will continue when the door is shut.

I will check the draw again and post the exact number. I know the vanity mirror wire is exposed and there is power to the wire but it is not in contact with anything.

If you mean the seat belt/ ignition key warning buzzer...then that is powered through two fuses. One is the 10 amp gauges fuse that has power when the key is on. The other fuse is the 20 amp stop/haz fuse that has power all of the time.

I don't see the year of your Vette but those with dimmers sometimes have problems with this unit, which will drain the battery. Some of the cars have the dimmer relay down low and easily accessible. Mine is between the speedo and tach. I had to remove all my bulbs until the next time I need to pull the dash pad.

The year is 1980. And I retested the amps and with the lights on it pulls 1.37amps and once they turn off it drops down to 0.0 - 0.01. For some reason I thought it was higher. When I put everything back together I will check it again.

Thanks For all the help.
