here are the pics.....
its close, but it will not reach all the way across to the outter bolts. and its all maxed out on the peg arms.....
it is on on one end, but not quite enough for the other side to reach......

Hi David,

Could the flywheel be in the way?

The reason I ask about the flywheel, is I have always pulled it before attaching the block to the stand.

Another possible thing could be, the block may not be high enough. If you raised it up another few inches, will the arm swing in place to meet the threads?

Bill

I think if you drop the engine down so that the arms are straight it might reach.

Heres mine, try raising the block.:m It`s been on the stand for about 3 years, maybe I`ll do something about it tomorrow. If tomorrow ever comes.:upthumbs

David,

Ah..now I understand. I was half asleep when you called last night. I could not think straight.

You need to lower the engine down a tad so that you catch the lower two mounting bolts. Then, adjust the arms where you catch the upper pair of bolt holes. Right now you have it set to catch the two pair of bolt holes right on top of each other.

You will need to take the hoist lift cable out of the hole and re-adjust the arms on the upper side to that point...and it will fit just fine.

Notice how IRONCROSS has his....with the middle set of bolt holes skipped.

OK, Cool thanks for the tip and pic demonstration....skip a set of bolts, got it!!!!

but do i still need to pull my fly wheel, or not.....

You don't have to pull the flywheel in order to put the engine on the stand, but if you're planning to pull the crank - it's easier to pull the flywheel now.

i think you trash that over sized piece of junk. Ummm, i'll be happy to dispose of it for ya.

What are you going to be doing to it?

bossvette

Thanks for the tip, but I made sure it would not slip off.....I know it may look like it would but it wont. But it doesn't hurt to be safe than sorry....so ill put a washer on there when I lift it again to try to put it back on the stand....thanks.
Dave

you know, that's not a bad idea, AND you'll get rid of it for me too!!! what a sport?!?!

then again, I wouldn't want you to get hurt, with all that horsepower now;LOL ..... but, that was a nice try though.....

What are you going to be doing to it?

actually, once I get it on the dam stand...... :hb

ill take the heads, intake and carb off as well as all the other essential parts like cam, crank, valves, pistons....etc.

then I'm having all the parts checked to make sure they are good and if they are what I want in my rebuilt engine.
I'm also having the block hot tanked, cleaned, inspected and bored...if needed. then put it all back together (with help of course) with new rings, seals and stuff and back on my 70.....
so pretty much a whole engine rebuild.....
Dave

p.s.
don't worry ill post pics of the whole process......

I worked skilled trades for GM 32 years and they Stress safety.
try this way
I usually mount the fixture (removed from the stand) to the block with the engine on the ground, then pick the engine up and slide the stand on the fixture and then lower the whole setup down.
it lets the hoist do the work and you dont have to jockey around a heavy engine.

That is the correct way! And the way we do it here. A hell of a lot easier too. :upthumbs :m

Bossvette.....
that’s an even better idea......why didn’t I think of that...:duh
I guess that just makes too much sense....to do it the easy way.
thanks for the idea...I will do that!!!
