02 6 speed stage 2 clutch... 19"'mayas... 3"'drop
Aloha gang,
I had many vettes, modded and slammed. I'm on my 2nd 89 now,i was going to get another c5 in the new year, but i'm thinking maybe a callaway instead. I would drop it 2 to 3 inches like my other c4s,put 18" front and 19" rear wheel on it. I would also being 1/4 miling the car a few times a year,6 or 7 SCCA races, and a weekend cruiser. My questions are,if i end up with an L98,is the block the same as the stock 2 bolt main L98? Or is it a different block,i would try for an 89 up,i like the aerobodies alot. I would try to get the motor to 425hp and 600+ torque. I was told to wath out for a couple certain yrs,not sure,i'm not big on second hand info... so sorry for the questions, just need some education on the callaway..real world style..
Mahalo for any tips..

Callaway C4's came in 2 series, the '87-'91 RPO B2K twin-turbos and the '91-'96? supernaturals. The supernaturals were LT1 (except for a few ZR1's) based and did not use forced induction, just stroked with improvements to breathing. The twin-turbos have more power potential. The used stock blocks but were totally reworked including splayed 4-bolt main caps, forged nitrided crank, pink rods (some say this is the weak link), and forged dish boost-friendly pistons. The basic engine was the same throughout the years, but the overall package did change. You can get an aerobody for any of the years.

The '87 had small IHI turbos while the rest got bigger Rotomasters. The IHI's are upgradeable while the Rotomasters aren't made anymore.

'88-up got a better air intake, and an even better optional air intake is available. Bigger brakes and suspension redesign also came in '88.

'89 got the 6 spd trans that replaced the "4+3".

'90 got the new interior and ditched the "atari" dash (that I happen to like).

That's all I can think of for now... check out the callawayownersgroup.com marketplace. There's an awesome deal on a '90 there right now.
