Tank was below 1/2 and decided to fill up before the next round of price increases.

Since the filler is next to the drivers' window, I like to leave the key on and listen to the radio-- low volume of course.

When I got out of the car, the radio did not stay on and I was puzzled but filled the car anyway.

Got back in and noticed that I didn't turn the key all the way to acc. but 1/2 way by mistake.

I started the car but it shut right down and did again when I tried, I just caught sight of the DIC which read: Check service? engine soon, shock failure--there may have been more and I may not have caught it all.

Well, since I'm blocking the isle I decide to put the car in neutral, brake off and push it out of the way thinking perhaps I should call a tow truck and the Dealer-car still under warranty.

Having successfully moved the car I decide to try and start it again and it did! Like nothing happend! Any thoughts?

You weren't listening to DISCO were you? ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

Sounds like the same problem Jay was describing in THIS THREAD. Did you get one of those "pull key, wait 10 minutes" messages? How many miles on your Vette?

Talk radio

Help, I've become addicted to talk radio, Disco was in the 70's :0

Didn't get the "Wait" message, called the Dealer and have an appt. for next Tues. at 9. They will read the fault codes, thinking about buying a reader for myself and the wife.

The axel seal replacement was just done about a week ago (think the shock electrical cable not reattached properly? is it removed to repair the diff. leak?) and the car has 7075 miles on the odom.

Did pushing the car reset something? The steering wheel was not turned and the car was in park when I tried to start it. It was an immediate shutdown once it fired.

Actually, you don't really need a reader to obtain codes. If you follow the steps in THIS THREAD, it will show how to pull codes yourself. You can even print the reference page to learn what the codes mean when your car flashes them.

I honestly don't know what it might be. C4C5Specialist may have an idea. Keep us informed what your appointment with the dealers turns up.

There is a sensor that detects the purge cycle if the fill cap is loose. You may have set it off by leaving the ignition on during filling. That would be my guess. Normally the purge cycle resets after the cap is back on and it clears by the time you restart the engine.
Turn on the key, but don't start the engine.
Press the OPTIONS button in and hold it in.
Press the FUEL button 4 times.
The DIC will flash the error codes that are stored.
History codes start with an H.
If you see a code that reads P0440 H, that is the error for the purge system that senses the gas cap off.
Push the TRIP button to get out of the diagnostic mode.

C4/C5 Specialist hasn't been on the forum lately, but this information is from one of his previous posts.

Overnite at Dealer, again

Took the 'Vette in for the situation described above.

Service Mgr. called this pm and said that they needed to order a part and perhaps it will be ready tomorrow.

I asked what the problem was and it sounded he wasn't sure himself but mentioned column lock and I'm wondering if it applies to the problems mentioned in another thread HOWEVER no problems with the column locking. He also states the fuel was shut off at the injectors when the problem was occuring.

I read the codes this am and they went by quicly and I was in a hurry and did not get all of it. One read: 10pcm 1 codes

He says they've done a bunch of 'em, but wants to replace the ignition switch???

Overnight Repair

Dealer had to order a new ignition switch.

1 of -12458190 cylinder
9- 6259315 spring
3- 2852732 tumbler
2- 2852733
3- 2852734
1- 2852735
1- 10308321 switch

Repaired under warranty Code P1625 was diagnosed-there is no 162 but there is a 1626 which is the theft deterrent fuel code

Car has 7123 miles on it, second time to the shop; first repair was to the transaxle, left side cover leak.

The one thing you can't or should not do is have the key on when you fill up.. The car just does not like it.. Will set off codes when done.

If you ever have a bad gas cap you will have the same problems.

Never leave the key on--make sure the car is running and have a smoke while it fills--only common sense.

Well, what he and I meant was the accessorie function of the key switch.

I like the one shot of a person with hand-held phone or simply sliding out of the car (while refueling) and causing/starting a static electricty fire.

I usually smoke my stogie while refilling, gives me extra room at the pump and is a great converstion starter.....;)
