I'm now about to get my 4th new brake booster made by MBM. I've been working with Muskegon Brake to get a brake booster that has the mounting studs for the master cyl at the right distance apart to allow the cyl to fit over them.

Muskegon is going to spread the set apart far enough to mount a new master, and then send it to me. My question is how to I bench bleed the sucker if it's already attached to the brake booster??? Can I just attach the booster rod to the brake pedal and bench bleed that way??

Thanks,
Dave

You should be able to push the rod on the other end to bleed it. If the engine is not running you can still stop the car so it should work.

If that does not yield satisfactory results, then why not use engine vacuum - you will need a long hose to get from the car to your work bench.

I am assuming you are going after a performance master cylinder, which is why you are working with these people.

Naw just new stock replacement (MBM is the brand)... they don't sell performance boosters (That I know of). just all stock brake parts.

Ive always bench bled them on the car.Its just so much easier pushing the brake pedal.Always worked for me.

I though it should work!! I'll give it my best shot (providing they get what they promised to me for tomorrow).

Bleeding on the car sounds like a great plan to me.

OK. My master cylinder was leaking and I went and bought one from Autozone. they had it in stock and it bolted right on. This was an easy job for me. I get the impression it has not been easy for you. Am I missing something?

Is there something special about your brake booster?

You know the two studs that come out of your booster that you bolt the master to? Yeah, well some tardo doesn't know how to weld those studs in straight, so every booster I got had the studs angled in towards each other. I could not get the master over the studs without destroying the threads on the studs.

You are correct, it should slide on nice and easy. Run the nuts down, bleed it... and off to the races!

It's no big deal to do it in a vise on the bench and then pop it onto the booster; when I'm done bench-bleeding, I pull the rubber hoses off and put rubber caps on the plastic fittings, take it to the car, connect the lines, and pressure-bleed the system. :)

Well,

I got the shipment today... everything seems to fit well. They sent a 4th booster and a 2nd master. I got my calipers on tonight, as well as tightened up my fan belt (PITA on a BB car, there are three mounting bolts), re-installed the alternator,

Tomorrow I will bench bleed, install the booster and master, and bleed the lines the old fasioned way. Hopefully I will have this thing back on the road this weekend (too bad it's gonna rain all weekend, the Hot Rod Power Tour is coming back into TireRack in Southbend, IN Saturday).
