hi there guys,

i was just wandering what is the best type of brand performance chip to buy?

i was looking at the "hyper tech power chip thermo master stage 2"!

is there much difference between stage 1 & stage 2 in performance?

or should i buy some other brand chip?

may be a custom chip bye (t.p.i.s specialists)?

or (fast chip )from aka ed wright automotive ?

how much to buy a custom chip? and where or who can i get this from?

mods i would be intially running with the chip will be

pace maker tuned long headers with high flow cat and magna flow rear mufflers
bosh platnium plugs
t.p i.s leads
air foil
forced air induction system with k&n filter
52 mm or possibly 58 mm edlebrock throttle/body
pollution pump elinator kit
m.a.t relocat kit
high performance pulley kit
throttle body bypass mod
ajustable fuel regulator
possibley 160 degree thermostat

finally is a 58 mm throttle body to big to run on these mods?

any advice comments would be much appreciated!
thanks guys

my two cents. my 86 had a hypertech and didn't run real well with it, yeah could have been my chip? but there alot of guys with custom chips, which i have now and my vette is faster, runs smoother! not sure i should do this but i did a want thread on corvetteforum and a guy is sending me a custom chip to match the mods i have done for cost of shipping. but either way i would get a custom burned chip.

Ed charged me $350 US and dropped it in the mail to me for next day delivery.

I bought a HyperTech chip for my stock 92 back in 94 - about the only thing I can swear that it did for me is eliminate the CAGS junk.

When I have my 92 updated with the LT4 Hot Cam and LT4 heads/intake, the Hypertech would not keep it running at idle and it did not run smooth. Installed the FastChip (I called them and told them what I did and they knew exactly what to send me), and it ran perfectly.

I'm all for supporting the custom chip people and not using a generic chip.

Personally, I think you should have one custom burned. But even then, I don't know how much you'll gain by those mods because you haven't done something like a cam or heads.

Forget the 52 or 58 TB, you'd just waste your money. A 48 can supply enough to even a 383 motor.

There is no off-the-shelf chip thats worth the expense.

A custom one is needed if need a chip, but none of your mods warrant it. Wait for heads/cam/intake changes.

I have heard good things about PCM for less I believe it is.

Custom chip is the only way

Try either Azzato or PCM for Less...

I just installed a PCMforless on my stock LT1. Definite SOTP improvement at WOT through most of the rev range. And car runs noticeably smoother.

www.pcmforless.com

Do a search on PCMforless in this forum and corvetteforum.com. Lots of very satisfied folks with mods. But, i can only speak for stock.

You be the judge!
