I went with the KYB about a year ago on the 82. Good handling characteristics and comfortable ride. For performance I would go with Bilstein but forget about the comfort part.

Generally, do "stiffer" shocks have better handling and more performance but little comfort? And vice versa for others? Or is there some other deciding comfort factor?

I would recommend the AC-Delco Gas Cushioned Shocks. I have them on my Corvette and I am very pleased with them. My freind who owns his own vette shop recommends them to all his C3 customers.

I went with KYB also. Best bang for the buck and very cheap from Summit.

I'm sure the Delco shocks are very good, too.
