What is the best thing any of you have done to cut down on "feet heat"? My 454 is cooking my feet and it is only April.

My headers are wrapped to the bolts. Was thinking of going furthur back on them. Nothing under the carpet and tunnel around trans seems to be bare.

I'm about to have fillet of foot!

Thanks for any input.

I'm not sure what exhaust you have, but I noticed a dramatic decrease in heat after I installed the Flowmasters. Now I'm only miserable when it's over 85 degrees outside.

Barb :w

(PS) I bought the floor insulation kit but never installed it and returned it after noticing the difference from the new exhaust.

Tim,
I have a 73 with just a 350 but it still produced a lot of heat in warm weather. Before installing new carpet I put the heat shield in. I can already tell a big difference in the ol hot foot action. Good luck - it does get pretty warm here in Texas!!!

I put some half inch insulation with foil under the carpeting and in the console over the tunnel. Then..."underneath the car", i glued the same stuff under the tunnel (around the gearbox) . I also put some at back of the metal heat shields between the heat shield and floor , and glued that. I dont get any heat coming in, except thru the window if im idling for a long time with the window down.

I bought a roll of insulation with foil backing at J.C. Whitney and actually did the entire inside of the car--in the back too. I believe it muffled the road sound a little bit.

I have seen a tunnel cover for under the car in Ecklers. Has anyone tried it?

Tim,

One other thing I did on top of the other suggestions here was to attach a huge aluminum shield under the car. I hooked it to the stock location where your little stock plastic heat shield picks up at the foot tip portion of the floor. I then stretched it all the way back to the trans cross member. So, it is the width of the floor under each seat, goes from the front of the trans cross member to the firewall, bends at about a 70 degree angle, goes up the firewall about 11" and bolts to the stock shield location. My floor is cool no matter how hot it is outside as that shield really stops the radiant heat.

I built it out of think sheet aluminum. I think it is 14" wide at the greatest width, and about three feet long total. It looks cool from underneath as well.

69,

I thought about doing that since im in the hvac trade and can do sheetmetal. Is there any way you can post a pic of that for us ??? Is there an air space between the sheetmetal and the floor ? Thanks , Dave.

It will be tough to photo until I can jack it back up again.

I will see what I can do.

69,

Just go out and buy yourself some RhinoRamps at Pep Boys tonight...then give the reciept to Rob for total reimbursement :) (tell him its for the benefit of the Discussion Group --- he'll understand)

Here you go!

I had to flip the camera over, then rotate the image in the computer.

Look across at the driver side to see where/how it screws to the trans cross member. There is a 3/4" or so air gap between the floor and the pan. I put some insulation in there to keep it from rattling.

These things work GREAT!

69,

I like it. Nice job. If it was painted black, it would really blend in. I might give it a go.

Thanks for your effort in getting the pic...
