Are you sure that ET-50B is not the backing reinforcement that you need? $45.00
(Hood insert fiberglass reinforcement)

SF-521 is the Hood insert mount hardware $8.00/set

is that what you bought?? cause we have the same hood....it doesnt say any details on that item so im not sure about it

No, I'm not using the insert because for the last 33+ years I've been using sealed-induction to the hood opening.

If you ever find another one of these..........kill to get it.

They are worth a huge amount of money. :D

This is what it looked like when it was white. A foam element goes around the outside of the screen.

lol...no thats one thing i dont have....im gonna call zip just to make sure what i order is what i need...i was gona order it online but i guess i will have to phone them to confirm....thanks again man

FYI you are going to have to cut the hood to make that insert fit... My buddy painted his all up then decided he wanted the insert and told me to pick one up. Well I got it to him and we looked at it and he about cried. However out came the grinder and a cutting he went... Dave..

If it's an original GM hood, the trim piece doesn't use any backing plate or reinforcement - you just drill the holes for the three studs (which take nuts on the back) and the two holes for the screws at the front of the "points".

Vanacors sells the small reinforcement piece and also reproduces the air intake like Heaven has. I don't know how close to original it is but I may try one when I put my BB hood on this year. He sells the air intake for $90 at the shows but probably around $125 on line or by telephone.

Check them out.

Is the BB hood functional, i.e., does the air induction increase horsepower? When would you ever not use the insert...when you're washing the car?

Nope - there's no hole in the front for an air intake, or at the rear; the original GM hood was strictly cosmetic. Only the original L-88's had air intake holes under the rear part of the scoop.

Thanks John. What about the '67 big block hoods (not the L88 cowl induction ones) - doesn't the design of the hood piece allow for the air to flow in and this somehow increases performance?
