Anyone know a better way to shine up the black plastic on the dual air intakes on my 81? I have seen those guys on tv shine up clear plastic rear windows etc. with some type of abrasive. Wonder if using something like that would be better than having to armor all (which is what I currently do)...this may be better topic on a different board, but hoping someone here has had some luck.

take it off and clean it really good to get all the armor-all stuff off then get leather shoe dye made by Kiwi and put a couple of coats on it untill you think its been absorbed enough and then wipe it clean then spray black magic shine on it and should be good to go, might have to reapply everytime you want to show the car off though but it's much better than armor all because of the silicone thats in it.

No update yet, cold as heck here in KY. There is an ice storm going on as I am typing! Been working on brother's ttops. Put on new weatherstripping and shims. got one side fit on but came short on shims for other side. As far as the engine, I think I am going to disassemble what I want to try to polish (what is easy to disassemle anyway like the air intakes), bring inside and scrub down. I will then get a good applicator for black polish and treat my Vette like my dress shoes and see what happens. Now if I had a heated garage I would probably go ahead and start.

I'm not familiar with the air intakes you mentioned, but I've seen our CAC Moderator GS Diva recommend 303 Aerospace Protectant on numerous occasions for dash, door panels, weatherstripping... anything vinyl.

She states it doesn't leave the slick, greasy residue that Armor All does, but leaves a nice sheen AND it provides UV protection too.

You might try reading through this thread for tips on one of the cleanest engines I ever seen!
