thanks for the help and quick response, do you know of a site I couldget more info about this engine?

Chances are it has 8.25:1 compression, cast iron intake, Q-Jet carb, and is about 250-260hp.

ok,

so here's the next inevitable question....I can rebuild this engine into something decent, or since it is obviously not #'s matching- sell it and get a crate motor the 454 H.O. (about $5000 is all im willing to spend so dont tempt me with the 502

thanks

depending on what you want to spend (based upon what you want to accomplish), you can figure you'll spend at least $6,000 to rework your 454 to something that you seem to want. by going .30 over, changing out the heads to LS6 heads and doing a bit of milling, new valve train, etc, changing the intake and carburation, and adding a cam you can probably get some really serious bang for the buck. the crate 454 for $5000 will probably be pretty mild compared to a rework of your block. we have some serious engine guys in our area (including russ auto in hollywood who used to build engines for the NASCAR guys back when they were balls to the wall running at hialeah speedway lots of saturday nights in the "old" days.

thanks for the input, its kind of what I expected, I will look into this while the body/paint work is being done
