Question: The blower will blow on low, med, & med-high. But no high speed. I have tested at the fuse link under the hood (by the relay), and it's OK. The switch tests OK (ohm's test). I have the wiring diagram, but I am not able to track down any breaks in the wiring or another fuse.

HELP!!!

Thanks, Rick

Do you have 12 volts at terminal #1 on the relay (battery feed)? Should show 12 volts all the time there. Do you have 12 volts at relay terminal #2 with the switch in "Hi"(that energizes the relay coil)? Is the relay grounded (that's the ground for the relay coil)?

Mine was the same way (i have a 72)

Here is what I had to do to mine:

1) the Purple wire to the blower had a dead plug on it. It was rotten and rusted to pieces.

2) The blower relay fell apart. High speed is on a differnt lead than the others and doesn't go through the resistor pack. $18 for a new relay, and I replaced a few of the plugs too.

The fan still sucks, but it works!

Let me know if you need more details.

I have 12VDC out of the switch, in the high position. This connects to what looks like a blue wire (but could have been purple).
Where does the purple go to??

Rick

Here's a pic from the controls. Note the "blue" type wire. From this binding post with the harness not attached I have 12vdc from the switch in high.

Mine was the hi speed blower relay which only controls the high speed setting. It can be bought at Napa.

Mine was the hi speed blower relay which only controls the high speed setting.

Where is that relay located??

There is a 30 amp inline fuse on the left fender well near the horn relay. It is the high speed blower fuse. Check it, it is probably blown, very common.

If this is the fuse link (see attachment), it's OK. I have 12vdc thru this link.

That's the fuse. If you have 12v through there then your problem is probably at the blower relay.

your problem is probably at the blower relay

Where is this located.

Rick

OK. Here's 2 pics. This should be the relay.

This is the lead going to that relay.

Now I have just came from NAPA with a new relay. That didn't work.

Tested the purple lead. Some voltage (not 12vdc) when the switch is in all positions except high. No voltage in the high position.

Any ideas?

Rick

I've been trying to do some research with the '69 service manual. Looking at one of the wiring diagrams, they show a "high blower delay relay". Is this part of the corvette wiring system, or maybe for one of the other vechicles listed in the manual?

Thanks,
Rick

TCS TEMP SW (20 DG) goes to the TEMP SW on the firewall, looking at the mounting bracket up, the left most post.

WOW! I'm confussed! Here the latest test results. At the connector to the high relay, I have a constant 12 volts, on the purple lead I have less than 12 (changes), on the small green lead I have 12 volts when the switch is on high, and the small black lead is the ground.
I have changed the relay, and the fan still will not blow on high.

CONFUSSED!!

Rick

I think I got it. I jumpered between the red lead (constant 12 volts) and the purple lead. The blower went to high.
NAPA sold me the WRONG part.

Thanks for all the help.
Rick

Rick did you get it figured out? The photo you show a few posts back is the same relay as the one I changed except mine had a silver cover and not gold. Mine was easy as it was falling apart at the bottom where the wires connect. (No brainer) I did have the same problem however.

Hope you have it blowing up a storm now.

Roy

Great news. NAPA got me the right part. And it worked! How about that. Amazing what the proper parts will do. The only down side is that the orignal relay was gold and the new (NAPA) one is sliver. So to keep it all orignal.....changed out the guts, and installed a gold relay.
Thanks for all the help.

Rick
