Have anyone of you had to replace the Body Control Module on your C-5. I believe I may be having to do that soon. Can you tell me the kinds of things that happen when one goes bad? On my 2001 coupe, I get all kinds of warning messages on the DIC and all the lights come on, such as the Active Handling Light, ABS light, etc. I also get messages like, service engine soon; reduced power; check tire monitoring sensors; low fuel; etc.
Also, my windows quit operating; as well as the power door locks and the radio quits working.
I can turn off the engine, and it may clear everything and then act like nothing is going on for a day or two, and then the same things happen again.
I have replaced the battery and had all of the 9 grounding connectors checked and tightened on the car. My mechanic, who is not a dealership, advises me to take it to the dealership as he says the BCM is warranted for up to 8 years.
Does anyone have any expertise in this area? Your help is appreciated.

Hi there,

Honestly, the diagnostic trouble codes will tell you all that you need to know.

But here is a simple test to see if the BCM is causing the issue.

When this occurs, does both door windows and locks work??????

I know it seems simple, however, if they do NOT work you probably have a communications failure. This failure can be the result of alot of different things, but not usually a body control module.

Allthebest, Paul

Here is how to pull your codes. You can't use an autostore scanner and get all the codes you can from the dash.

Give us what is under each module heading and whether it is an H, C, or H and C. These are for History or Current.

The only C codes are for tire sensors.

To narrow down what may be going on, go in and delete all these codes. Go for a drive or two and then pull them again BEFORE you turn the engine OFF. Some codes will not show once the engine is OFF or will show as H and not C.
