Jim and Craig got over to the house about 10 this morning....I had been up since 6:15....once I woke, I couldn't go back to sleep...so got up and finished a few more things on the car like getting some of the body bolts off....and when they showed up, Craig finished getting the emergency brake cable disconnected and Jim helped me with the last couple of body bolts.

With the car up on the wheel dollys it sure was easy to get underneath to disconnect the last few things.

Because Larry had problems withthe height of his 4 post lift getting his body off, we took no chances and removed the 4 wheels and lowered the wheel drums down on the wheel dollys and pushed the car over to the big 4 post lift.

We got the body in position and attached the straps to the seat belt mounts and to the convertible top mounts just behind the seat location.

We started to lift with just these 4 points, but decided that we needed to attach a strap across the front as well so we put one of my tow straps underneath and attached it to the two overhead car ramps.

we were a little worried that the front end wouldn't take the lifting stress, so I used the ratchet to tighten up the strap and came to the conclusion no problem we would just watch it carefully.

So up we went with the hydraulic lift.....ever so carefully.....

Up she went.....

and then we decided a little higher to clear everything...

out came the frame on the wheel dollys and in went the body dolly

The body safely on the dolly....just a note for others....the front part of the dolly is not required at all for a C1....no where did the body sit on the front part of the frame, only the main portion.....for a C2 it is probably necessary..but not the C1....live and learn.....

The body sitting on the dolly while the frame goes into the work side of the garage for getting ready for the Myers front and rear end that is going on the existing frame.....

Again, specials thanks to Jim and Craig that braved the cold weather and the snow that we had here (they didn't run into snow until the got about 10-15 miles away). Craig drove his RED C5 (it felt comfortable with the other RED cars at the house!) with plates BOSSVETTE.

More pictures and information to follow as more progress is made....and by the way...this is all Barry's fault...if he hadn't started with the carb, and aluminum intake and valve cover cleaning exercise I would not have been motivated to do this....thanks Barry!!!

Herb,
Your very welcome.
And guess what, the wife gave me the green light for the lift."time to clean out the garage"
I hope it'll fit!!

AWESOME.....when you get one.....I would be glad to come over and help.....we should talk about where you have it delivered...it is bloody heavy...the big one almost 1850 pounds the little one around 1500 pounds....and getting it to your house is a issue...we should talk...I have a few ideas....

http://eagleequip.com/page/EE/PROD/LI-SS/603-034 this is the one....it is listed on the web page for more than I paid....I found this ad in my September 2005 HOT ROD magazine....they were offering this special...seems to me that at Carlisle it was less expensive, show special....at any rate this ad in the magazine was less than on their web site...I think you are going to have to whine a little to see if you can get a good price....

The MS-7000 is the one that had the Sting Ray on top and the Z06 under it....the MS-7000XLT is the taller one that we lifted the body with.......

Come on Bob its time to start slipping in the links to it in posts now that you are another year older and wiser.
BTW I put about 250 miles on mine today ;)

and there will be a warm up barbeque in West Unity before the Caravan departs for BG

The guy whom I purchased my 76 from used to sit and look at it while he drank beer and wondered how he was going to fix it. The steering column looked like it had been sludge hammered and had no wheel. He did that for 4 years before his wife told him to sell it.
I never had the heart to tell him I was driving it the day after I recieved and replaced the column.;LOL It took him longer to find the title and get it to me then it took me to fix the car.

So drinking is best done after working ;)

oh......... is THAT the trick to being succesfull working on these cars? I guess that's my problem than and why I don't have a clue what I'm doing, I don't drink.
Of course, after a few more of these projects and constant issues to try and track down to fix I may have to start..........

it can be enough to drive a man to drink...no doubt!!!

Fantastic to hear all went well Herb and with Jim and Craig helping, WHAT A TEAM! Way to go guys. Hope you had safe trips home afterwards too. Amazing with good friends to help and the combined knowledge you have together it sure does take away most of those doubts and "Jitters" right Herb? Good luck on your next steps and please keep us updated as you progress and ....lots of pics please!
Doug

Congrats guys and thanks for the pictures.....I think you will be inspiring a few others of us.....and we too.......will blame Barry!
(JK).

Keep us posted.

Very creative way to the body lift. I have the lift and the dollies...I would have never thought to do what you guys did. :cool

I put the lift together myself (after having substantial help in breaking it down in the truck and positioning it on the floor of the garage.) I used an engine lift centered over each ramp to position them over the cross beams. NOTHING about the lift assembly was easy or lightweight :hb

I do understand what you are saying...it takes 4 men and three boys to put those darn things together or at least to lift the ramps into position...everything else isn't too bad....

I am planning on using the lift to also lift the motor and position it and the tranny on the frame so that I can get the new motor mounts into position....I figured if I was going to put the body on and off several times that I needed a way to do it so it could be done with just me doing it.....that meant using the lift somehow....I still need to think of some other means to attach and lift the car evenly...as you could see in the photo that it was listing somewhat...lifting it up, no problem.....but when I put it back in place I want it to go down pretty evenly...will probably use my better half to work the button and valve while I run around and make sure everything is where it needs to be....stay tuned...more photos coming...I got EVERYTHING off the frame today...it needs to be power washed....it is in really great shape, I am very pleased with it.....

first gear,
Did you do the lift all by common sense or did you buy the video?
Just wondering if the video is worth it.
I would hate to start cranking the body up only to find out something wasn't removed/disconnected until it was too late.
Would appreciate your input.

Thanks.

I got the noland adams book on body lifts....there is a check list in there that applies to C1's and 2's...as well as how to build the dolly....like I said earlier, no need to build the front section for a C1, the body never touched it....I just went through the list, disconnected or removed everything on the list......I took photos of everything I took off or out.....labeled everything with what it was and the appropriate digital camera photo frame number.....there are lots of brackets and such, I labeled every one of them with a tag on a string....when I sand blast everything I will have to take the tag off, and then put back on when it comes out.....same thing when it gets powder coated.....to be honest with you, it isn't much to get the body off.....I was really surprised....
