Help! Body Mount location for 80 Corvette

Should there be two body mounts (on each side) under the sill plates on an 80 Corvette. I pulled the carpet out to replace and found two large diameter holes on each side that lool like where the body mounts are depicted in the shop manual, is that correct?

Hello Dsharp,

The bodymounts aren't under the carpet. The front bodymounts "behind the sillplates" are inside the "A-pillar" where the doorhinges are located. The rear one is inside the chassis and can be accessed when you remove the small metal plates that are in the front of the rear wheelwell. (something like that )

Thansk for the quick reply, I have discovered some "field repairs" on this car and was afraid this was another example.

If what you see looks like the ('67) photo below, that additional #2 mount hidden under the sill plate was only used on convertibles; don't know offhand if they left the hole in the steel sill (and in the fiberglass sill over it) after 1975 or not.

Thanks for the information, there have been some "field modifications" on this car and I was worried for a minute.

Dsharp: The 1980 Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) will help you considerably. Ditto for the GM chassis and service manual. Order each along with a reproduction owner's manual. If you have an original owner's manual with the car, take it out and store it in a safe place in the house. Put the reproduction in the car.

Now i read the topic again. No the holes your looking at are not for bodymounts but have another purpose. I don't know which, but my 81 has them two and there were little orange/red plugs in them. I think Mike know's what they're for, I think for the assembly of the body or something like that..
