Question:
1) What is the easiest way to remove the bolt-on wheels?

I've not had the "pleasure" of attempting the task, but would like some feedback.

Thanks,

I believe all you have to do is take the factory supplied wooden handle flat blade screwdriver (p/n 3585238) and pry up the starburst cone. Underneath you will find the five attaching lug nuts (p/n 358501) and the starburst retaining ring (p/n 3910734). The retaing ring is attached to the wheel with 5 screws (p/n 274430 and the attaching torque is 35-50 in./lbs.). The ring prevents damage to the wheel from the lug nuts

When re-attaching the wheel, the retaining ring's debossed part number should be opposite the valve stem hole. Torque the lug nuts to 55-75 ft./lbs.

If you find one of those original Irwin Tool Co. screwdrivers, fire a flare and call me collect - I need one, and I saw a REPRO go on eBay two months ago for $335.00 ;LOL

I've found that a "seal puller" (looks like two eagle beaks with a handle) and a rag are far better than the screwdriver for removing the "starburst" cap - pops it right off without damaging the cap or scratching the wheel paint.

If your bolt-ons are original, the lug nuts are 3/4" hex, and the normal supplied lug wrench/jack handle will work on them; if they're reproductions, they use a special deep-shank 7/8" hex lug nut that fits into a deep bored hole through the wheel, and your lug wrench will NOT remove them (you don't want to find this out at 3:00 AM on Sunday in Bingo Flats, Nebraska) :(

Here's a handy tool I made up by welding a regular 3/4" hex lug nut to a 7/8" 6-point socket; it fits in the hex on the standard lug wrench (so you don't have to carry a second special wrench) - I keep it in the glove box; you still need the regular lug wrench to unscrew the spare tire lid retaining bolt.
