Here is the body mount at the rear of the car. The bolt will loosen, turn and turn but will not come out. I can even retighten the bolt with about 1 turn, no matter how much I have tried to loosen it.
How does this bolt come out?

My guess is that the anchor plate has come loose on the body support bracket. Can you see the other side from inside the car where the bolt comes through? This is a common problem on older vehicles, not sure on Corvettes but am real sure on Studes and older Chevy's. Had to flame wrench or chisel many of them off and then improvise or re-weld the anchor plate back to car for re-installation. Good luck and hope you get it off.

"Removing the deck lid" Are also refering to the location where the spring "bracket" bolts down? Will I be able to see the nut from this location?

Thanks,
Rick

#4 Body to frame bolt

From the picture, that looks like the #4 body to frame bolt. The nut on the inside of the body is a caged nut. In other words, it is perfectly square, and had sheet metal on the sides to keep it from turning. When I lifted the body off my frame, I trouble with these, the sheet metal that is suppose to hold the nut still, bent, allowing the nut to turn. It was very hard to get to, but I had to cut the sheet metal away, and get a socket over the nut so I could loosen the bolt. One side worked, but on the passenger side of the Vette, I had to cut the bolt with a dremel in order to get it out. Be very careful putting heat to the bolt, there is a lot of fiberglass in that area!

Hope this helps you!

Convertible body mount 4 is very much a PITA. The cage that holds the nut was designed to keep the nut in place long enough to asemble the car. Anything more is just luck. Remove the deck lid, remove the spring & bracked as an asembly. This will allow you access to the top to the body mount bracket. Cut the bolt under the car. Use a cutoff saw-- no heat. Pull out the remaing from the top. Replace with new. To do both sides plan on 6-8 hours for this project.

I hope your right. After reading all the information, I think I know what's next. I was able to go over to a friends house, who is in the middle of his '71 frame off resto. He showed me where to go and how to get to the bolt. The only trouble he had was getting the 2 bolts out of the top of the hing/spring area.
This will be my after Christmas gift (which has to come after my after Christmas/R & R an engine for my niece).
Thanks for all the advice.

MERRY CHIRSTMAS EVERYONE!

Rick

Rick, why are you taking the body off? Is there something wrong with the Vette?

And another general question: why do they same "frame-off"? I mean, what are you taking the frame off of? I see that you take the body off, but frame off?

I'm not really taking the body off. I need to get the the back shim on the passenger side of the car. The door is hitting the body, and appears that it is not aligned up. After trying to adjust the door, an option is to change the spacing at that point. This should give the door a gap, and align the body to door also.
Just another challenge that I wasn't counting on.
Have a Merry Christmas.
