It would seem that my Bose amps are not powering the speakers. I can listen to the radio, but must turn the volume up a lot. On ocassion the speakers get lound for a second, then go back to low volume.

I have looked at one of the rear units, and there are 4 wires. I assume two are the signal from the radio. And two are power for the amp. I checked and have a 12 volt supply to the amps, and signal must be there because I get some sound.

I understand there is a relay, someplace, for the rear speakers. I assume this is to turn on the 12 volts.

Given that I have the 12 volts, and signal, any ideas on what to check?

Also where would I find the misterious relay?

Thanks

The relay is attached to the speakers on my 91 Conv. I just had mine rebuilt at Dr. Dons ( see portal for info) or there is one of the CAC members that does this also. There are some other things that could cause the problem but first guess would be the amps in the speakers are BAD. I'm sure Dr. Don or Eagle ( ithink that was his handle) can answer your questions. Do a search for Bose repairs and you will find your answers.

Check for the relay in the pass/side storage compartment. Shud be taped to the bulkhead.

Have you checked the speed compensated volume on the off/on switch. Mine always ends up in the low position.

Been looking thru the trouble shooting section & can't find the problem you describe.

CAC member is Eagle 85C4 that can help you with the problem.

Thanks for the help. I looked in the compartment and there are no relays there. I am wondering if they are in the dash by the radio. Anyone know how to remove the trim plate? ( I gotta find a good manual !)

Sorry I gave you bogus info on the relays. I meant to say amplifiers are attached to the speaker enclosures. I have no idea where the relays ar located (or if there are any for that matter). Call Dr. Don's and ask him. He can pretty well tell you what is wrong over the phone. You can find his number by going to the portal on the toolbar and looking under electronics.
