I just ordered a set of new brake hoses. They came with a pair of copper washers, and a pair of steel washers (the two steel washers were in the sealed package with the hoses, the two copper washers were in a separate plastic baggie in the shipping box).

Is this correct? If so, does the front get copper and the rear get steel, or does the rear get copper and the front get steel? Or should I make a phone call and get an extra set of copper washers?

Also, while I'm asking, does anyone know if it is easier to install the hose to the caliper, then the whole assembly to the car, or the hose to the car, and then attach the caliper?

Confused,
Joe

Joe,
Past experience with new brake hose installation was with all copper washers. This was on a non-vette. I can't imagine why they would give you STEEL washers. Are you sure they are not aluminum washers? These would work in place of copper as what they do is crush to provide a seal like a gasket. Now where they would go, front or rear, I don't know. The only reason I can think of for the non-copper washer is if there was a problem with dis-similiar metal contact causing a down the road corrsion problem. Just a guess on my part. Hope someone can give you the gospel on this problem.

Always used copper on mine:dance and screwed the caliper onto the brake line hose before installing the caliper & hose to the car:D . I don't think there is any other way to do it:CRASH

ps. the other side of the brake hose - the one not attached to the caliper - is of course first attached to the brake line before you do the screwing

Duh!!! You're right, they're aluminum.

But they are also smaller in OD, and about twice as thick as the copper washers, so I'm still a bit confused.

Thanks for the installation tip, Twinray.

You attach and torque the hose to the caliper first (either off or on the car), and THEN install the other end to the bracket with the "U"-clip and connect the steel line fitting to the hose end. If you attach the bracket end of the hose first, you can't turn the hose to attach it to the caliper.

So, should I have recieved four copper washers, or is it normal to have two copper and two aluminum? If the second, do the aluminum washers go on the front or the rear?

Joe

I never recieved both just copper, some one wanted to give u a choice stay with the copper front and rear ............
You can buy more copper washers at any parts store .
