hey guys just need some opinions on troubleshooting some brake issues on a 85 corvette. this is not my vehicle but a good friends who has asked me to fix it. has brand new brakes put on less than a year ago, but the brake pedal has no pressure to it will not pump up and sometimes just plain doesnt wanna stop the car. ive opened up the front bleeder valves to check for air in the lines, but all that got me was dirty and greasy, my thoughts are going straight to master cylinder right now but before i take that off i'd like opinions or if anyone else has had this issue.

Definitely replace master cylinder. Flush plenty of fluid through the lines. May have to replace calipers but see if they work first. Usually that old of a vehicle ... replace. They may still be working but will eventually fail.

Make sure you have no leaks, and the system capacity is approximately 1 qt. I would flush at LEAST that much thru it, if not more. I bet the calipers and master cylinder are toast. He is lucky this is not a 86 or later car, that would have ABS and all the junk would be in the ABS system as well. This is why proper brake fluid maintenance is key to longevity of ANY braking system. Probably the least maintneced system on a car, the most important, and has the most asked of it.
