I had a master cylinder replaced by a mechanic, who is not around any more, and now my brake pedal is pretty close to the floor. I tried to pull the pedal up by hand, and it doesn't go up any farther.
Before this was replaced, I didn't have this problem
Can anybody help me with this and tell me how to fix this problem? My car is a 1970 coupe with power brakes.

Thanks for any help
Bob

Check under the dash, make sure nothing is stopping the pedal from retracting, make sure the linkage going thru the firewall is OK,if everything's OK,you may have a bad master cylinder.

If your brake pedal is near the floor and you can't pull it up to where it used to be, the problem isn't in the master cylinder - it's in the rear half of the brake booster, or in the mechanical linkage between the pedal arm and the pushrod that connects it to the back of the booster.

John,

The brake pedal was fine before the mechanic installed the new master cylinder. Why would there be a problem with the linkage?
I would like to fix this problem myself since I now have time, but I'm confused as to what to do.

Thanks Bob

Bob, Your post says you live in Michigan. If you are anywhere near Sterling Heights you can bring it to my shop and I will help you fix it.
