Brake rotor attachment?

Are the brake rotors supposed to be held on by anything? I don't remember ever working on brakes and being able to move the rotor by hand, but on one of my rear rotors I can. I'm gussing this is something to be concerned about. Any thoughts?
 
Bob, originally the factory attached the rotors to the axles with rivits. When any work needs to be done in that area you drill the rivits out so the rotors can be removed. The lugnuts when tightened will provide the clamping force. Charles

Like to just toss out that when you take the rotors off ---- check the runout on new ones or Vette brake calipers become big air pumps sucking air in and wil drive you crazy bleeding all the time. The max runout I like to work with is .003-.004" with an absolute max of .006". You should be able to obtain that, put the new rotor on, torque the lug nuts and check the runout with the runout gauge. If too much, rotate or index the rotor to the next position on the lugs. If you can't get it on several indexes, you need to get the rotors trued up.
