Brake Warning Light Reset?

The brake warning light in the dash of my 79 is staying lit. IS there a reset? The first time it was on was after I rebuilt the calipers and the master cylinder but it went off after I bled the brakes (so I think). Now I just replaced a front caliper after the rebuild leaked. This time I bled it but the warning light is staying on. Someone mentioned to me there may be a method to reset the warning light (something to do with the ball in the proportioning valve).

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,

The light is an indication that you may still have some air in the system. While you were bleeding the caliper, no doubt your pedal went to the floor a few times. This set off the light, and you need to pump up the brakes and get the system firm before it will shut off.

Thanks, I'll try bleeding them all again. I only bled the one caliper last time

The proportioning valve does not get reset until you press really hard on the brake pedal after bleading the brakes. Do it several times really hard and if everything has been rebuilt properly the light will go out when the valve moves back to the neutral position.

:L there is no reset on the proportioning valve. I had this problem on my 77 a couple of yrs ago. if after bleeding the brakes and the light stays on. try to unpluging the wire on the proportioning valve.
(I cant remember if this turns the brake light on if the system is bad? or if the light will go out if the valve is bad? )
On my old 77 I had a bad proportioning valve and this was a very easy way to check it.
Hopfully someone else will chime in and explain it better?. (how to check the proportioning valve)
Hope its not a bad proportioning valve?, because theres nothing like lying in brake fluid getting yr hair soaked while having the stuff running down yr arm while trying to replace the Darn thingy.
:hb ,Ill Never,NEVER replace this part again:duh .but probly will cause a vette driver has to do what a vette driver has to do,:drink To drive it like you stole it:lou
save the wave.

The spool in the warning switch portion of the combination valve is held centered by a spring on each side; if air or a leak occurs in one side, the spool moves off-center and grounds the circuit, lighting the warning lamp. When you take your foot off the pedal, the valve will automatically return to center and the lamp will go out by itself, unless the inside of the switch is gummed-up or corroded.

Well I re-bled the brakes and the light didn't go out this time. I have full pedal, no sponge so I'm thinking the warning system in the valve maybe toast. I'm going to try the hard press on the pedal, come think of it thats what I did before when it reset. For no I pulled the bulb socket fro the cluster.

Sometimes you can knock it loose by jumping on the pedal fast a few times. Sometimes not.
