Briggs cunningham race car Grille

So I had seen a picture of this car a while ago in a magazine.I cut out the photo of it and placed it in my 62 project book.I had saved the photo because I liked the way the grill looked.Now I am to the point of I need to find the material the grill is made of or I have to use the Black reproduction grill (at a cost of $650.00) I had found a simular material at auto zone but it not quite high enough to catch all of the bolts.

Does any body have any suggestion? Does any body have a better picture showing the front of this car.The photo I have of the car is wrinkled and does not scan well

So what do you guys think? Stick with the stock grill or continue on my quest for a grill simular to whats in this car?

I have wanted to copy that car for years now. Thats why I'm looking for a donor car to start with. IMO because your going more retro I would leave the stock grille. If I get the chance to build one, I will copy it to the last detail. but on a late frame and running gear.

I like the grille a lot.

I think it will make your car even more unique.

It would help if someone could photoshop that car and turn it yellow so you could see how it would look.

If you want to go with the retro racer look it will look great. You will need to add a few more items than just the grille or it will look out of place. Wheel selection will be very important. No large diameter or billit anything. They will have to look vintage like the American Salt Flat Specials that resemble the wheels on the Cunningham car or you could just buy the real thing from Halibrand, (still available in aluminum, not mag). They were about $2500. complete with real knock off parts the last time I looked.

Of course if you look at the old pictures most racers of the time used a wider steel wheel so that would work too without wheel covers.

I've always wanted to duplicate the hood too. That is a very cool piece.

I can't see the detail. Is it a wire screen kind of material or a perforated sheet?

BUT,

With some re-guidence from emails from our members, I have been set back on track,

I must STAY THE COURSE,My original plans were for a modified running gear,But with a stock appearing outside.

So allthough I love the chrome mesh grill,it just wont work with what I exspect for the end results,

IH2LOSE: I paid over $600 for my stock grille as you say, but now I see Crane's got 'em "on sale" on his site for $350. I haven't seen his grille but it may be worth a look at that price.
