New to this forum but thought I would post that rear end broke with only 860 miles on it. Normal take off, shift to 2nd and BANG!! It has been modded but not raced at strip yet. Moderate to aggressive driving.

I has to be a bad part as my '06 Z had same mods and almost same dyno #'s and was raced at drag strip with no issues. Will be repaired under warranty.

Mods include:

Vette Air
Haltech Killer Bee
Ported T/B
Ported & Polished Intake
American Racing Headers w/hi flow cats
Centerforce clutch & flywheel
C-5 axles
160 TSTAT
performance tune

Dynoed 490 / 462 in the Texas heat.

There isn't one mod listed that would give you so much power that it would break you rear!It had to be defective.Glad they're warranty fixing it!

HI there,
Well, actually, if you launch a Corvette hard enough, wheel hop will crack the case and break components.
The reason is the axle shaft fully compresses and bounces the tripot joint against the internals of the housing, then the shock transfers into the differential.
How do I know?
I have 2, one c5 and one 2005 c6 diff housings and internals. And the funny part, I actually have video of the c6 when it happened at the street races in Bridgeport.
You got lucky, I will give you that.
People just do not understand what TORQUE SHOCK can do to a driveline.
Allthebest, c4c5

Thanks for the info. The problem is that I was driving under normal conditions, so I have to believe it is just a faulty unit. Dealer is changing the whole differential, just a swap out, so I will probably never know what happened. I think GM will probably take the old diff to engineering and due the diagnosis.

I'm curious about something in your sig line.

Why the "C5 axles"?

Mine Too!

I was at Willow Springs this week and heard a loud bang coming out of a right hander.

I got it back to the pits and saw that the passenger side u bracket had a bolt missing and the bracket was bent also. I got this fixed but the car was hopping on the passenger side under 2nd and 3rd gear WOT.

I took it to the dealer and was asked to duplicate the problem.

This was Friday Afternoon so I won't be seeing my car again until sometime mid-week.

Center section change and 2 hardened shafts.
Warranty of course.:D

Bill

It is my understanding that the C5Z axles are stronger the C6Z, however I think on the 07Z they might have strengthened them. However to be on the safe side I went ahead and changed them as I know the dependability on the C5's axles.

BTW I was booted off the track this weekend for running to quick. On my 4th pass I ran a 11.41 @ 125.5 with a 1.827 60' on DR's. Was told to drive slower or get a roll bar.:D
