Still looking for my first vette, 91 to 94 range .And in the process I have noticed a couple of cars with brownish looking valve covers. Is this due to heat and should I be concerned. Thanks in advance for any input

Don't worry about the tarnished covers too much, They sometimes are the nature of the beast.

That is the problem some one cleaned them with a solvent and it will turn then brown in color. You can buy C4 valve cover paint from Mid America and paint them. Does a nice job. Chuck

No matter what you do, if they are factory-issue valve covers, they will stain over a period of time. The valve covers are made of Magnesium and are slightly porous, therefore you will always have some oil stains show up. :(

A trip to the bead blaster does an excellent job of cleaning them up before painting. While there off it's a good excuse to change out to 1.6 to 1 roller rockers. 84 CF 91 ZR-1
