This question has most likely been answered before but I can't find it anywhere in the forums. I've received a copy of the build sheet for our 2004 coupe from NCM. The date at the top of the page says April 14, 2004. The date on the door sticker says April 2004. I assumed the build date was April 14, 2004.

However the dates on the manufacturer's stickers under the lids for the rear storage compartments are 4/15/04 and 4/16/04. I doubt if these parts were produced after the car was built.

Question is - Is there any way to determine the actual build date from the build sheet, window sticker or any other source?

Bill, I think the build sheet date is an indicator of when your Vette started the assembly process. My suspicion is that the April 15/April 16 dates have to do with final tweakings on the assembly line. It may have taken two working days for the car to be fully assembled. April 14th may have been the date actual final assembly started.

I've heard from folks who've done an NCM delivery of their Vette that they get a tour of the factory. During the tour, at the end of the fabrication line, the horn is honked to show that another Corvette has been "born." I think by that tradition, the actual date most folks will consider assembly date is when your horn received it's first honk, thus, when it was considered "born." My guess is, based on the info from your stickers on your storage compartment, your cars birthdate is April 16th.

Thanks for your answer Patrick. We were at the assembly plant on April 30th last year. ALways wondered if we saw our car being built.

Patrick is correct it takes 3 work periods.I had the great privilege to be allowed on the production line for a full day in 03 to follow my car.I did the first start and i called that it's birth.I can tell you one thing ,the prodution workers that work on your vett really care and appriciate you -you could'nt ask for nicer people--

date

when we get cars delivered off the truck, the production date is usually inside the drivers door on a sticker w/other info.don't know if chev's are the same, but they might be!

Couldn't agree with you more. When we took the tour everyone at the plant seemed to be very much into their work but were also considerate of those making the tour. They did make it feel like they cared that we had bought the product they were building. Glad we did that and would recommend to any vette owner.

I'll tell Bill it gave me a different perspective of auto workers.I'm glad i did'nt have to fly to Soul and watch Hing Wang put the fenders on my vett .Makes me proud to be an American and my car 's glad to be an American to.

I agree again. I truly believe we are driving one of the best engineered autos built in America (by Americans) I'm proud of that too. Funny thing though. When you leave the assembly plant and go to the National Corvette Museum you can't buy a t-shirt made in America. It's not the only place either. The day before we were at Bowling green we stopped at Churchill Downs and same thing in their gift shop. A couple days later at Daytona Speedway gift shop - same thing. Three t-shirts - American's best sports car, American Best Horse Race and The Great American Car Race - all made in Indonesia. If were can figure out how to make Corvettes, why can we make $20 T-shirts?
